! Important Industry Update !
The NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) has recently updated their standards in regards to requirements for companies manufacturing products involving combustible dust
The main NFPA standard for combustible dust is the newly updated NFPA 660: Standard for Combustible Dusts and Particulate Solids, which replaced the older NFPA 652: Standard on the Fundamentals of Combustible Dust. These standards require facilities that handle combustible dust to perform a Dust Hazard Analysis (DHA) to identify and mitigate fire, flash fire, and explosion risks through dust control, ignition source management, and emergency planning.
Combustible dusts can come from a variety of materials, including agricultural products, food items, and even certain plastics and metals.
Agricultural Products: Cornstarch, sugar, cocoa powder.
Metal Dusts: Aluminum, magnesium.
Organic Dusts: Wood, paper Ammunition: Smokeless Gun Powder
Automation Devices' feeders are round which allows a pressurized boot to seal the base with the top allowing a controlled positive-pressure air leak ensuring no dust or powder can enter the mechanical workings inside the boot. The Barksdale switch monitors any pressure variance inside the boot which would shut down all electrical input in the event of a mechanical or electrical malfunction. The pressurized system with the Barksdale is not possible with square-base feeders.
Hazardous Environment Products
These products help with compliance with the newly updated NFPA standards.
Rubber Shroud
The pressurized rubber shroud is fitted over a base unit and is a sealed air bladder that prevents the accumulation of combustible dust.
Pneumatic Inline Feeder
The pneumatic inline feeder is air powered and eliminates electrical sparking risks. ![]()
Barksdale Pressure Sensing Switch
The Barksdale pressure sensing switch monitors positive air pressure in the system and shuts it
down if the air pressure drops.
Pneumatic Hopper
The pneumatic pan feeder hopper is air powered and eliminates electrical sparking risks. ![]()
