4th Quarter '06 - U.S. Productivity and Costs
Manufacturing productivity grew at a 2.2-percent annual rate in the fourth quarter, as output fell, but hours fell faster. On an annual average basis, output per hour in the manufacturing sector posted a 3.9-percent
increase in 2006. -
Dec. '06 Employment Situation: Manufacturing Continues Trend
Manufacturing employment continued to trend down over the month with declines in motor vehicles and parts (-5,000), primary metals (-3,000), and textile mills (-2,000). Over the year, manufacturing employment fell by 72,000 with declines widespread throughout the component industries.

October U.S. Import-Export Prices Drop
Import and Exports prices both show decreases. Large decreases in petroleum and gas for the month. Unfinished metals also drop 1.0 percent, up 36.8 for the year.

August 2006 US Unemployment: -.1%
August had a small decline in unemployment at .1 percent for all workers. The labor force participation rate remained steady at 66.2 percent indicating that the decline in unemployment was not due to the exclusion of discouraged workers from the population data.

June CPI Indicates Relief, Purchasing Power Drops $.001
June's Consumer Price Index came in at a reasonable rate increase of .2 percent. Fruits and Vegetables, Public Transportation and Fuel Oils top three increases, while purchasing power dropped $.001

US Producer Price Index Changes Gears
After a 1.4 percent decline in February, the Producer Price Indexes have shifted to a .5 percent increase. Net Output of Total Manufacturing Industries advanced at an annualized rate of 5.6 percent, compared with a 3.6-percent annualized rate of decline in the prior quarter.

Economy: 4th Quarter '05 and Annual Average US Productivity
The 4th quarter of '05 exhibited declines in productivty for both the business and non-farm business sectors. 4th Q. measure of durable goods manufacturing was 8.2 while the annual average was 6.6.
