OSHA Requirements Regarding Forklift Attachments and the Fork Rhino
OSHA Regulations Regarding Attachments
Below are the current OSHA regulations regarding forklift attachments. OSHA forbids changing the safe operation and capacity of a fork truck.
BURNING A HOLE IN A FORK IS NEVER SUGGESTED.
Modifications and additions which affect capacity and safe operation shall not be performed by the customer or user without manufacturers prior written approval. Capacity, operation, and maintenance instruction plates, tags, or decals shall be changed accordingly.
If the truck is equipped with front-end attachments other than factory installed attachments, the user shall request that the truck be marked to identify the attachments and show the approximate weight of the truck and attachment combination at maximum elevation with load laterally centered.
- 1910.178(o)4 Trucks equipped with attachments shall be operated as partially loaded trucks when not handling a load.
This letter from the OSHA Office explains the relationship between the two subsections.
The Fork Rhino's design DOES NOT AFFECT THE SAFE OPERATION OR CAPACITY OF A FORK TRUCK.
THE LOAD IS LIMITED TO THE BALL RATING. The Fork Rhino is available with three (3) standard size balls: 1 7/8", 2" and 2 5/16". The 1 7/8" ball has a load rating of 2000 lbs. The 2 inch ball and the 2 5/16" ball have a load rating of 6000 lbs.
