How to Choose a Vibratory Feeder Bowl Base Unit

Vibratory feeder bowl base unitBase units (drive units) are available in either AC or DC springing. Units sprung for AC operate at 7200 vibrations per minute at a line frequency of 60 Hz, and units sprung for DC operate at 3600 vibrations per minute. The selection process depends on the characteristics of the part being fed, such as size, weight, and material. Consideration should also be given to the average weight of parts in the bowl at any one time.

Special lightweight bowls are available for some applications. When considering Vibratory Feeder Bowls, keep in mind the following:

  • Choose the bowl. First, determine which vibratory bowl will best suit your application. (ADI vibratory bowls are grouped by drive unit.)
    • A lower total weight may permit the use of a smaller base unit for a given size bowl, with a corresponding reduction of mounting space and initial investment.

    • Choosing a bowl larger than the minimum size required will allow for more in-bowl parts storage and a greater opportunity to orient parts as they travel over a longer track.
  • Cross-Reference the Drive Unit. Then determine which base unit will work properly with the selected bowl. For parts that require greater linear movement, consider the use of a VFC FA style base unit. Fast-Angle feeders have a reduced spring angle which provides more linear (or horizontal) motion and less vertical motion than standard-design feeders.
