Vibratory Feeder Bowl Diameter

Vibratory feeder bowl diameterGenerally, the diameter of a vibratory feeder bowl should be at least ten times the length of the part it is to feed. (A smaller ratio can occasionally be used depending on the part.)

This bowl's diameter is approximately 10 times the width of the stud that it feeds. This ensures proper contact with bowl surface and increases the amount it can store.

In addition, the part would "chord" the track in an ineffective feeding attitude. The diameter of a vibratory feeder bowl should be a minimum of ten times the length of the part it is to feed.

Preferred vibratory feeder bowl diameter
The drawing below illustrates too small of a diameter bowl trying to feed a part that is too long. Good feeding characteristics come primarily from part contact with the helical in-bowl track.

Bad vibratory feeder bowl diameter
In the bad example, it would be better to use a 24 inch or 30-inch diameter bowl for the 2-inch bar, so that the part will ride in a V-form track and stay away from the bowl wall. The larger bowl would also provide storage for an adequate supply of parts, eliminating the need to constantly replenish the bowl.
